Maine Business License

General business licenses are dispersed at the local level in Maine. You will need to check with your city or town to see if you need a permit or license. Maine Engineer License

You need to get a license before you can work as an engineer in Maine. Earn a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or engineering technology. It must come from an ABET-accredited program or an equivalent program that meets the NCEES Education Standards. Then, you’ll need to take the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, get your Engineer-Intern Certification, and complete four years of work experience in engineering. Your level of responsibility at work should increase each year. When you complete your work requirement, your employer needs to send in the Engineering Employment Verification Form to the Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers. Next, gather five references. Make sure three of them are professional engineers. Have them complete the PE Reference Form and send it to the board. Then, you can submit your application to the State Board of Licensure for Professional Engineers.

Maine Insurance License

You don’t have to take pre-licensing education to get your producer’s license in Maine. However, you will increase your odds of passing the licensing exam if you do take courses. Whether you take the courses or not, you’ll need to take the producer licensing exam through Pearson VUE. You must earn at least 70 percent on the exam to pass. Upon passing, you can apply for your license through the National Insurance Producer Registry.

Once approved, you’ll receive a copy of your license in the mail. You will need to take the mandatory continuing education courses to maintain your license. Without completing the continuing education requirement, your insurance license will lapse.

Maine Medical License

Do you want to become a licensed physician? You can begin the process by graduating from a board-approved medical school. Follow that with 36 months of post-graduate training and pass the USMLE and jurisprudence exam. Then, you can submit your application to the Maine Board of Licensure in Medicine.

Maine Nursing License

If you want to get your nursing license, you must first complete your education. Take an LPN or RN nursing program at an approved institution. After you graduate, you’ll need to register with Pearson VUE, so you can take the exam. RNs take the NCLEX-RN while LPNs take the NCLEX-PN. You can then apply for your license via the Maine Board of Nursing.

You can increase your earning potential by working toward an APRN license. Complete your advanced degree and take the exam to earn national certification. Then, submit your fingerprints and apply through the Maine Board of Nursing. Keep in mind that if you apply for a nurse practitioner license, you will need to work under the direct supervision of a nurse practitioner or physician for the first two years. You can add your supervisor online via the Maine Department of Nursing website.

Maine Real Estate Agent License

You need to have a GED or high school diploma and be at least 18 years old to become a Maine real estate agent. The state also requires that you take the sales agent course. You’ll have to pass a final exam with at least 75 percent to move forward. Then, you can take the sales agent licensing exam. You must score at least 75 percent on this exam as well. You can then submit your application online to the Real Estate Commission.
